Social Studies
This year we will mainly be studying the history of the state of Florida, from the earliest Native Americans, to the first European explorers, to Florida's admittance to the Union, to its role in the Civil War, all the way to modern Florida. Students will learn about Florida's form of government, the major industries, the types of people and cultures, the food, and everything in between.
On top of this, students will also be creating projects that will help them learn about some of the other states in this great country, as well as some of the great Americans who have helped lead this nation. At this point, and things may change, I believe we will be doing five projects during the course of the year. Here is the tentative schedule for the projects:
1. States project - August 31st to October 11th (Due Date)
2. Presidents Project- October 22nd to December 6th (Due Date)
3. The Florida Powerpoint/Google Sheets Project - January 7th to May 14th (Due Date)
4. Black History Month Project - During the month of February
5. Multicultural Month Project - During the month of March
For each project, I will upload the information packets, and if possible, examples, so you can see what your child needs to complete. I will not put them all up at one time, but they will be up on the website by the time the students get their hardcopies on the start date.
Project #1 - States
The above are examples of student projects from last year.
